PURPOSE AND MISSION OF THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer service organization, civilian in nature, open to both men and women who are citizens of the United States,  its territories and possessions, and who are age seventeen or older. The purpose of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is too assist the Coast Guard in any of its missions except where prohibited by statute, such as direct law enforcement and military actions.

The Auxiliary: Promotes safety and affects rescues on and over the high seas and on navigable waters; to promote efficiency in operation of motor boats and yachts; to foster a wider knowledge of, and better compliance with, the laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of motorboats and yachts; to facilitate other operations of the Coast Guard.
