Auxiliary Flotilla 14-3
Palm Coast, Florida
Does your boat meet Federal and State safety requirements?
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary actively promotes boating safety by educating the boater. A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is a FREE public service in the interest of boating safety. It is performed on recreational boats 65 feet in length or less, including personnel watercraft, rowboats, canoes and inflatables. The VSC is a face-to-face boating safety information exchange with the owner or operator of the vessel. We provide instruction on equipment to be carried on board and other important safety matters. The requirements for the Vessel Safety Check parallel and sometimes exceed Federal regulations with regard to equipment and certain aspects of the vessel's condition. This sis not a law enforcement action by the Auxiliary and no official report is made to any law enforcement authority. A VSC is performed only with the specific consent of the owner or operator, who is present at the time of the check.
A Vessel Safety Check decal is awarded when all Federal and State safety requirements are met. These requirements include:
* Display of registration numbers.
* Registration or documentation.
* Coast Guard approved personnel flotation devices.
* Visual distress signals.
* Backfire flame control.
* Navigation lights.
*Ventilation.
* Sound producing devices.
* Fire extinguishers.
This decal, however, does not circumvent the right of Federal and State officers from boarding.
